怎么说呢，不知道楼主有没有看过中文版的，其实中文版的《小妇人》译的已经是非常不错了，无论语言特点，人物性格都和英文版的比较符合。
我有一本译林出版社的中文版，英文版不记得是哪个出版社的了，不过到也没关系，只要纸张不错，不是错字连篇的盗版就行了。
至于说看英文小说，我觉得首先是一定要选择完整版，不要选择“精选”的，那种只不过是小说内容的故事梗概罢了，完全没有原著的语言特色。小妇人这本书相对来说还是容易懂的，语言不深，是一个不错的选择。
关于词汇，理解，我认为可以准备一本词典，如果还是觉得句子理解起来有些别扭，可以对照一下中文译本，因为《小妇人》的中文译本是很不错的。

书中四姐妹的结局是：大姐梅格嫁给了劳里的家庭教师，正直的绅士，名字我忘了。乔在可怜的贝思生病后回到家中照顾妹妹，但最终妹妹还是死了，乔在家人的鼓励下继续写作，最后嫁给了教授。贝思死了。艾美代替乔陪伴马奇婶婶到欧洲游历，最终嫁给了劳里。最后，经历了多年的感情领悟，乔和劳里成为了肝胆相照的好朋友。
作者 露易莎 梅 奥尔科特还写了后面两本，作为《小妇人》的续书：《小男人》和《乔的男孩子们》，但是我只看过《小男人》。
讲的是：乔和教授结婚后，马奇婶婶死了，把她的大房子留给了乔，乔用大房子建成了一所学校，专门接收男孩子们，在这个乐园里，乔和教授用自己的言传身教教导孩子们在学习知识的同时，注重自身的修养和健康发展。我很喜欢他们的教学方式。劳里承担家族事业，但他成了乔的教育方式的最坚定的拥护者，他还把一位失去家庭的可怜男孩送到了乔的学校，这个男孩由最初的羞怯渐渐成长，为同伴们所喜爱。学校里有两个女孩子：梅格的女儿和另一个假小子“南”，她们在和男孩子一起学习的过程中学到了优雅的举止，也让男孩子们学到了对女士的关心爱护。情节大体就这样，有一个重要的事情是梅格的丈夫在第二本里面病死了。其余人物都没有变化。
第三本《乔的男孩子们》我没看过，情节就不知道了。
